What else could you want? Oh yeah, great barbecue. But is it all cheery in North Carolina? Of course not. Just like every other state, North Carolina has its issues.

There are some places that are having a hard time right now. The purpose of this post is to use science and data to determine which North Carolina cities need a little tender loving care.

Where are these places you wonder? And the worst place to live in North Carolina? That would be Wadesboro. Built in the south-central part of the state, Wadesboro sits in a mostly rural section of North Carolina. It takes more than an hour to drive to Charlotte , the closest big city. The economic struggles are obvious in the statistics.

Wadesboro suffers a This financial structure leads to other deficiencies, like high crime and a troubled school system. The town boasts a quaint downtown and numerous historical points of interest.

An hour drive to the southwest takes you to Charlotte. Despite this promising location, the town still ranks as the number 2 least attractive spot to live in North Carolina. A lack of opportunities holds the town back. It suffers an unemployment rate of The area also has problems with high crime and substandard schools. Monroe could count as an outer suburb of Charlotte , located about 40 minutes from the city.

The community suffers from a sluggish economy. The 35, residents face a 8. Still, there are lots of benefits to life in Monroe. There are plenty of amenities including a vineyard. The town also features a picturesque county courthouse , complete with a quaint clock tower. A mid-sized town of 13, residents in the north-central part of the state, just south of the Virginia border, Reidsville once received a significant economic boost from the tobacco industry.

That source of cash dried up in the s, leaving significant economic turmoil. At this point, Reidsville counts as the number 4 least inviting location in North Carolina. The economic dislocation has led to an unemployment rate of 9. It has also undermined other civic services. Still, there are pleasant aspects to life in the area. Locals have sponsored a revitalization effort for the cute downtown area. Also, nearby Lake Reidsville provides access to fun water activities.

Roxboro faces significant economic hardships. The unemployment rate stands at As a result, fully Meanwhile, the crime rate comes in at more than double the national average. Located in the north-central part of the state, it serves as a local cultural hub.

You can check out its regular farmers markets, or stick around for annual events, like the Willow Oak Bluegrass Festival. This is not the Selma of historic Civil Rights consequence.

This is a different Selma the more famous one is in Alabama. This one is located in east-central North Carolina and ranks among the least appealing spots in the state. This includes the Mitchener Station , a historic train station originally built in Henderson sits along I, about 40 minutes northeast of Durham.

A lack of jobs and high crime rates make this one of the least appealing locations in all of North Carolina. The 14, residents of Henderson suffer with a 9. A short ride north takes you to the Roanoke River on the Virginia border, a great spot for outdoor fun. Like most of America, smallish rural communities in North Carolina struggle with drugs.

Albemarle, a town about 45 minutes outside of the Charlotte metro area is located in Stanly County. And Stanly County has the highest drug overdose rate in the state. Historically, smaller, impoverished communities like Albemarle have struggled to contain drug use because of a lack of resources. I mean when they arrested the head honcho drug dealer here not too long ago, he got out on bond and was dealing the next day. This is also the 4th most dangerous place in the state. A quarter of the community lives in poverty and the number of folks out of work here is three times higher than the national average.

And crime is super bad — like a 1 in 16 chance of being attacked or robbed every year. Located along I, about a half hour northeast of Fayetteville , Dunn provides a home to 9, residents.

Unfortunately, these folks might be better somewhere else…almost anywhere else, really. What makes the area so unappealing? Well, Dunn has economic problems, including a 8.

Dunn provides typical small-town charm, access to a couple of nearby Civil War battlefields, and several educational facilities, including the William C. Lee Museum. The LBG. The Burg. – Best dog rescue shelters near me

Because of the overcrowding conditions in many pounds and even in some animal shelters, the only option is to euthanize these animals if no one comes to claim them. Those who are looking to surrender their dog for free can find help at a dog rescue or dog shelter.

We are putting together a list of quality dog rescues located not just throughout the 50 United States but also those in other countries. For people who are looking for a specific breed of dog, there are breed specific dog rescues who focus on saving that specific breed of dog.

The rescue also has the Guardian Angel Sponsorship program where you can make a small monthly donation to support the charity. All donations go towards vet treatment, food and microchipping. They do not use shelters to house their dogs. Although they began as a dog rescue, they also foster and rehome cats. The rescue works tirelessly to find foster homes for surrendered or homeless dogs until they can be found in new homes.

They take in small breed dogs from high kill shelters like ACCT Philadelphia and place them with loving foster homes until they are matched with their forever homes. They have a thorough adoption process including a home check, 2 personal references, meeting all people and pets in the household and a deed verification to confirm the owner of the property where the dog will live.

Tiny Paws does not receive any public funding and relies solely on fundraising and private donations. Tiny Wings is a program for terminally ill shelter dogs who have only hours or days to live. These dogs are removed from shelters and placed in a lovely foster home so they can spend their remaining short time in a warm and safe environment. They are a no-shelter organization, relying on a network of wonderful foster homes to care for the dogs until they are matched with their forever family.

Clive Glen deserves to be on our list due to their dedication to matching dogs to the perfect owners. Clive Glen has a very strict adoption application to ensure their dogs are rehomed to suitable adopters. This fantastic rescue has foster groups in Dorset and Hampshire in the South of England and Northumberland in the North. All the dogs adopted from Minimutts are placed with foster homes until their forever family are found.

The rescue does not use kennels or any of their dogs. They believe in maintaining a safe and healthy home environment to help their dogs adjust better when they reach their forever homes. The volunteer staff at Minimutts spend time with every dog, evaluating their temperament and going through training for those dogs with behavioral issues.

They perform home checks of all prospective adopters and their dogs can be viewed with their foster family. All contact is made via their website. Angels may be one of the newest rescues on our list, but they definitely deserve their place here.

The rescue was set up by Chrissy marshall in and they became a registered charity in All of their dogs are placed in foster homes until they have been vet checked, behavior assessed and matched with the perfect family. They arrange regular events such as dog walks, auctions and raffles to raise funding for the charity.

By adopting a small dog from a charity or rescue center, you are not only giving that dog a safe and loving forever home, but you are also helping to ensure that more dogs can be taken from high kill shelters and given a new chance at life. No rescue dog comes without issues. Most rescue dogs have come from horrible circumstances or have spent time as strays. A small number are surrendered by their owner due to financial problems.

Such an upheaval is stressful and frightening, so you should be prepared to put in some time and patience to support your new dog and help them settle into their new home. The smallest dog breeds are the best dog breeds to have. They come in all different colors and temperaments. Mount Pleasant, SC | Another Broken Egg Cafe – Share this story

With views of the Ashley River, there's no better place to tuck into a bottomless cup of coffee and a bowl of grits when the weather is clear. Queen Street Grocery is nestled in the French Quarter, so customers can watch the carriage tours go by as they cut into a crepe or omelette. For those on the go, choose a hot-pressed breakfast sandwich on a croissant or bagel. As the name states, Millers All Day does indeed serve breakfast all day. Look for big fluffy biscuits, pancakes, grits, and plenty of bacon in a hip, yet comfortable, dining room.

There might not be any eggs, but it's hard to resist the European charm of the cafe and the full carafes of French press coffee. Super cute spot Baguette Magic offers carbs on carbs on carbs. Patrons rave about the recovery baguette — a hangover-curing combination of scrambled eggs, bacon, prosciutto, white cheddar, tomato jam, and arugula.

For those in search of something sweet, check out the homemade Pop-Tarts or the chocolate croissant. A post shared by Baguette Magic baguettemagic. Brunch is a marriage: of breakfast and lunch, of those who get up and run the Ravenel Bridge and those who sleep in after a long Saturday night, of the bacon lovers and the sugar fiends. This universal appeal makes brunch the perfect meal to share with friends—no matter their preferences.

Whether you like greasy eggs or syrupy waffles for brunch, Mount Pleasant has a stand-out dish for every taste. The P.

The food was delicious, I'll go as far as to say it was some of the best we'd had on our trip we're uk based and this was a holiday. I had the citrus chilli short rib tacos which came with a salad, hubby had the cilantro limb buffalo shrimp tacos and we shared a side of pomme frites.

Everything was super tasty and if I could have eaten more or eaten it again I would have. We'll be back if we ever visit Charleston again. Mentioned on 2 lists. Try it on Wanderlog. Hip outpost offering a rotating menu of inventive, seasonal cuisine made with local ingredients. Breakfast items include yogurt parfait, freshly baked pastries, avocado toast, and a selection of hearty and healthy sandwiches. Brunch Hours: Saturday-Sunday starting at 10 a. Amazing dinner experience with our group.

We enjoyed some drinks and lots of appetizers. The whipped feta was one of our favorite dishes…so much so that we ordered two of them. The Caesar salad was so yummy as well as the mushroom appetizer. Loved everything about this place and cannot wait to go back. Everything was perfect whipped feta is a MUST and this is the only place I and my husband want to return if we were to visit Charleston again!

The food is creative and well seasoned and our server was very attentive and gave lots of great recommendations. Try Spicy Potatoes if you are a fan of spicy Asian food :. It was a lovely dinner exquisite taste. Had warm olives and whipped feta as appetizers both good but the feta takes the cake. Seared snapper and spicy chicken avocado salad both amazing and for desert had the rice pudding it was beyond my favorite best in town.

New American restaurant. Casual, rustic-chic restaurant with a waterfront deck offering a locally sourced New American menu. What better way to enjoy farm-fresh Charleston dishes and crisp cocktails than waterfront on Mount Pleasant's Shem Creek?. My husband and I went to Charleston for the first time this weekend. I made reservations for this restaurant a few weeks back because of recommendations. The restaurant itself is beautiful.

The brisket on his was so smoky and flavorful. My grits were creamy and there was lots of huge shrimp in it. Both are definitely worth the price! However, the portions are! Our server Megan was really sweet. Interior looks like Joanna Gaines decorated the place, gorgeous!

Tasty cocktails, relaxing atmosphere, tables are spaced apart nicely, and food was delicious. Both were fantastic! Too much curry for my taste though. We had the key lime cheesecake for dessert, not what one might expect as traditional key lime, but the dish had layers of flavor, quite unique. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. Loved this place. Beautifully designed interiors, very open and comfortable.

The food is excellent as well. We ordered from the brunch menu which was fairly limited but everything was delicious. The breakfast burrito was great. The brunch burger was excellent. Everything included on the bread board was fresh and tasty, without being too filling.

Our waitress was attentive enough without being overbearing. Next time in, in warmer weather, we hope to sit outside and watch the boats. Didn't give his name. Middle age woman came to make conversation about the amount of food we ordered. It was weird and inappropriate. She didn't offer to help our server clear the table, just talking about the amount of food. I guess one entree person is too much food. Food Portions were good size. The cumin rubbed chicken, shrimp and grits special was cold but had a good flavor. The cinnamon waffle was lacking in temp and flavor. The fried chicken was seasoned very well and came out hot.

The scrambled eggs were hot as well. The French toast was thick but not flavorful. The greens were not it. Fried okra came out hot but needed seasoning.

First time stopping in and the vibe and food were great. The diner serves breakfast all day, lunch from lunchtime to close, and dinner 4 to close. I had the country fried steak a favorite dish of mine with collards and fried okra for dinner.

She was told the wait was at least 39 minutes or more. Please note , I was standing listening to all of this.

I am having to wait, because one member of my party had not arrived. This women went outside and was on her cell phone. Again, I am still waiting, even though, my entire party has arrived. The poor hostess answer the phone and I can tell she is being reprimanded for not seating the women with the large party in the golf carts.

They were seated very shortly after us and I had reservations. This tells me that someone with reservations had to wait longer. The hostess did nothing wrong! I probably will not bring out of town guests ever again! Go here if you want the best sleep of your life. Go here if you want to feel like a local. Go here if you love being near the city but want to be away from traffic and tourists.

I have seen reviews where guests have complained about a little noise. The reality is, this is a small, 7-room inn with a restaurant on the ground floor. From my perspective, the friendly muffled chatter from below and the light footsteps up the stairs made it feel like I was home with family, not in a hotel.

Once the restaurant closes for the evening, the village sleeps. The staff is friendly, accommodating, and will treat you like a close friend upon arrival: happy to see you and ready to grab you a glass of wine. Your stay will be filled with personal and intentional touches. Go here, and I promise as soon as you leave you will be planning your next visit. From Farm to Fork," this neighborhood cafe bordering Hampton Park is known for their freshness and local sunny-farm tabel aesthetic. While definitely being the most instagrammable breakfast spot in Charleston.. The Park Cafe's fresh and simple ingredients will have you questioning why everything isn't made this way.

Menu is excellent. Parking is only for hours. Very stylish coffee shop. Open space and clean inside. The service was great. I had a burger and was Delish! I stopped in to do some grab a coffee and do some work. Parking and tables are plentiful, and the almond milk latte was great. However, Merc and Mash plays very loud music and gets very busy. Perfect for road trips See time and distance between places, and optimize your route to get the most of your day.

What makes Coleman Public House a must-visit destination, however, is their outstanding collection of beer on-tap.

Garlic fries were on point! Crispy, light, fresh. We all ordered burgers. Flavor on burgers were excellent. Very good. Not a fan of the buns though. Overall, great experience, friendly staff, nice visit.

Was packed on a Tuesday night! This place is fantastic! It has a pub vibe and feel but the food is fantastic! I have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. All of them agreed it was the best they had ever had outside of Scotland!

They have a full bar with many specialty cocktails available. We were seated promptly and the service was exceptional! Good place for a quick bite. My client has an awesome burger, I had the fish and chips.

The Daily is a friendly neighborhood marketplace that serves home-roasted coffee, freshly baked bread, pastries, and sweet desserts, healthy smoothies, hearty breakfasts, and a variety of grab-and-go provisions. The bistro serves a menu of favorite items inspired and created with the most exceptional flavors in Charleston, including breakfast bites like sausage biscuits, English bacon muffins, vegetable hash, breakfast pitas, roasted hatch chile tacos, and seasonal quiche. A variety of toasts with toppings such as avocado, mushrooms, whipped feta, smoked salmon and cream cheese, and soft scrambled eggs is also on offer for breakfast or brunch.

We arrived around 10am and there was a line out the door. So you know it must be good. The line moved quickly and yet inside there are not a lot of seats so we had to wait a little bit. We all ordered food and coffee. I had the Black Sesame latte with almond milk and the seasonal vegetable soup that they offered.

Everything was so tasty! The drink was just the right of sweet without being overly sweet and difficult to drink. I loved the flavor and could still taste the black sesame. The soup was hearty and full of spice and flavor. The consistency was also really good. I cannot have gluten and they had options in their food menu and bakery section. It knocked me and my girlfriend on our feet! A truly stunning place. The staff are super kind and the food looked amazing.

The place has great indoor and outdoor seating so you can make it your own adventure! Waited 45 min In line to get coffees at 12 pm.

They were working effectively and very fast. Dip away, and then plan to scrape up every last bit with a spoon. Are you left wanting more after reading this?
