Things have been particularly bad when Wisconsin travels to the Hellscape that is Ryan Field. The Badgers have lost six of the last seven road trips to Evanston dating back to Wisconsin has always struggled with their energy at Ryan Field and come out flat, but hopefully, this time around the players will have PLENTY to play for given the circumstances.

Northwestern does come into this game struggling mightily, but I would still expect this to somehow be a game. I am not sure what vodoo magic Ryan Field possesses but it always seems to be a tight game and, frankly, kinda gross. Why not!

Chryst's squad suffered home losses to Penn State and Michigan along with a road loss to Notre Dame , all ranked opponents.

However, the Badgers would recover and win their next seven games including a victory over the then-No. Wisconsin has one national championship from an NCAA-designated major selector for the season.

Wisconsin has won 14 conference championships, eight outright and six shared. The Badgers have appeared in 33 bowl games and have a record of 18 wins and 15 losses 18— Their most recent bowl game was in the Las Vegas Bowl. The Badgers have participated in a season-ending bowl game 20 consecutive seasons and snapped a four-game bowl losing streak with a 34—31 overtime victory over Auburn in the Outback Bowl.

Jim Leonhard is now Wisconsin's interm head coach. Much prestige was always associated with the game, and the significance was emphasized with its place on the schedule.

Between and , the Wisconsin-Minnesota game was always the final regular-season contest for each school. The series took an added twist in when more than state bragging rights were on the line. After a setback that season, the Wisconsin lettermen's group, the National 'W' Club, presented Minnesota with an axe wielded by Paul Bunyan.

He was the mythical giant of Midwestern lumber camps. Each year since, the winner of the annual battle between the Big Ten rivals is presented with the axe, complete with scores inscribed on the handle, for display on its campus. Wisconsin leads the series at Iowa is Wisconsin's other archrival. Although the rivalry started in , the Heartland Trophy was inaugurated in and goes each year to the winner. The trophy was designed and crafted by artist and former Iowa football player Frank Strub.

The trophy, which is a bull mounted on a walnut base native to both Wisconsin and Iowa , has been inscribed with the scores of all games in the long-time series. With Big Ten expansion, the Wisconsin and Iowa football teams were placed in separate divisions, thus ending their annual rivalry.

However, with the addition of Maryland and Rutgers, Iowa and Wisconsin were placed back in the same division in Nebraska is Wisconsin's newest rival. With the inclusion of the Cornhuskers in the Big Ten in the first three games between the two programs were significant, the third being the Big Ten Football Championship Game where the unranked Badgers defeated the heavily favored No.

Prior to their next matchup in , the University of Nebraska and the University of Wisconsin announced that moving forward the two schools would play for the Freedom Trophy. The trophy sits on a wooden base and features a depiction of Nebraska's Memorial Stadium on one side and Wisconsin's Camp Randall Stadium on the other.

The trophy has an inscription honoring the nation's veterans and symbolizes that Memorial Stadium was built in their honor at Nebraska while Camp Randall Stadium in Wisconsin was built on the site of a former Civil War training site.

The score of each year's contest is inscribed on the trophy. Wisconsin leads the overall series This chart includes both the overall record the University of Wisconsin Badgers have with the all-time Big Ten members, as well as the matchups that counted in the Big Ten standings. Wisconsin has been a member of the Big Ten since its creation in Michigan rejoined the league in after leaving in Chicago withdrew after , and then Michigan State , Penn State , and Nebraska , Maryland and Rutgers joined the Big Ten conference bringing the league total to 14 teams.

As of November 24, The Fifth Quarter is a fan event that originated in and takes place following every Wisconsin home football game. At home football games at the University of Wisconsin—Madison , students "Jump Around" to the song between the third and fourth quarters. On September 6, the Badgers' first home game of the season , with the construction of skyboxes surrounding Camp Randall Stadium , UW officials decided to cancel the "Jump Around" due to worries about structural integrity.

Stadium security and the local police department had been informed of this decision but no notification had been given to the fans. Petitions circulated and students pushed back against administration. Structural engineers confirmed that the stadium would suffer no structural damage caused by the vibrations created by jumping.

Two days later, Chancellor John D. Wiley announced that the "Jump Around" tradition would resume. Wisconsin is 7—11 in games played when College GameDay has traveled to Badger games. Wisconsin has hosted the program 7 times. The Badgers have a 4—3 record when GameDay is on the Madison campus.

Some have even gone so far as to say it will be the 8th wonder of the world. Though not fully completed yet, the memorial aims to pay tribute to Crazy Horse, a Lakota warrior who fought at the Battle of Little Big Horn. Work on the statue began in and has been continuously worked on ever since. Also known as the "Island in the Plains", this forest sits on over 1 million acres of land that stretch over miles.

The hills get their name thanks to the dark green of the pine trees that grow on the hills and mountains. Due to their elevation, the thick forest appears black at a distance. However, don't be intimidated by the name. The forest is a favorite among locals and offers a plethora of activities you can do all year. The Mount Moriah Cemetery, located on the mountain that gives the site its name, is the resting place of some of the Wild West's most prominent figures.

Though the cemetery is no longer being maintained, you can still visit. Remember to be respectful and watch your step walking through the overgrown grounds. The Old Courthouse Museum commemorates what was the heart of the Minnehaha County government for over 70 years. Though the building has undergone restorations over the years, its main structure is the same as it was initially.

You don't just get to visit one of the city's oldest and most beautifully designed buildings, which would be exciting enough. The museum is dedicated to the history and culture of the region. If you're an airplane or airforce buff, you need to add the South Dakota Air and Space Museum to your list of places to visit. Located near the Ellsworth Air Force Base, the museum is dedicated to the history of air flight and the state's air force base.

Very few other places have the collection of decommissioned aircraft you can find at the museum. Since Chapel in the Hills has been a quiet, peaceful retreat for locals and tourists to admire South Dakota's nature.

Thanks to its location at the foot of the Black Hills, it's the perfect spot to relax on a busy trip. The church itself is constructed to emulate the style of churches and cathedrals in Norway. This gives the area a particularly European or fairytale sort of appeal that has helped grow its popularity. Made up of yellow, orange, and beige rocks, which give the area its name, Yellow Mounds is one of the highest recommended viewpoints in the area.

Since the mounds are found along the main road, you don't have to hunt for them. That makes them the perfect spot to take in a South Dakota sunset you won't want to miss. However, this spot has cultural significance, making it one of the state's national historic landmarks. Also called Bear Mountain by the native Lakota tribes and Noahvose to the Cheyenne, it was the location of countless religious ceremonies in local tribal history.

In fact, it is still a revered spot where tribes hold ceremonial events. If you find yourself in Sioux Falls, you have to make time for the SculptureWalk.

This walk is an interactive art exhibit made up of different sculptures by local artists. Rather than have all the sculptures in one place, the walk takes you on a tour of the city, where you can hunt down sculptures while taking the sites.

The sculpture walk is open all year, with new sculptures added periodically, so the walk is always different. The South Dakota State Capitol is the civic heart of the state. It's where the local government convenes to decide on the laws that will affect everyone within the SD borders.

As a visitor, you'll be able to admire the ornate architecture and the Capitol grounds that feel almost European. The building was constructed between and , and the government at the time put a lot of thought and care into making it a long-standing symbol of the state's governing body. While the Badlands, in general, is a must-visit stop on your trip to South Dakota, you'll want to make time to check out Roberts Praire Dog Town specifically. As the largest prairie dog town in the Badlands, you'll get the best chance to see these little critters in their natural habitat.

Home to thousands of prairie dogs, the area soon became popular among visitors who could spend hours watching them. Remember, they're wild animals, so you can't feed or touch them. Deadwood has become synonymous with the wild west. This fame has kept the city well preserved and earned it the title of a national historic landmark.
