The Carpet Bagger is an edible journey into the past — two four-ounce filet mignon steaks, fried oysters, and parsnip mashed potatoes, like something out of a s black and white film. Semantic appropriateness of the word itself aside, Irregardless Cafe was serving globally inspired food before fusion cuisine was the buzzword it is today. With a heavy emphasis on vegetarian and vegan cuisine nearly two-thirds of the menu is meat-free , the cafe has become something of a Raleigh institution.

Mushroom stroganoff, teriyaki tempeh, red-wine braised short ribs, and a paella with shrimp, chicken, mussels, scallops, and lobster butter are just a few of the menu offerings. The popular Sunday brunch has vegan burritos, smoked salmon hash, asparagus omelettes, and more.

A post shared by Irregardless irregardlessnc. Panoramic views of downtown Raleigh coupled with craft beer, innovative cocktails, and menu items like brewhouse mussels, a Southern saltimbocca with cheese grits, and a taco wedge salad with avocado-cilantro mousse easily qualify Wye Hill as one of the newest entries to the list of iconic Raleigh restaurants.

The couple behind Wye Hill, Sara Abernethy and Chris Borreson, rescued the former Boylan Bridge Brewpub space after torrential rains caused structural damage that led to the building being condemned, meaning patrons can once again enjoy one of the best urban cityscapes in the entire state while they drink and dine. With a focus on fresh seafood and small plates, chef Oscar Diaz is at the forefront of a group of Raleigh chefs and restaurateurs who are flipping the idea of what a Mexican restaurant should be on its head.

Oysters on the half shell, grilled whole local fish with salsa criolla, snapper ceviche, and more fill out a menu where the bounty of the North Carolina coast meets the flavors of Mexican cuisine. Choose from over a dozen daily offerings like red velvet cake, hummingbird cake, or banana pudding cake. Your friend thinks eating in a campus dining hall might be fun. Really cool spot for drinks , food , coffee or just casual socializing spot.

Hippie atmosphere and variety of small restaurants is convenient for almost any taste or dietary restrictions. Easy parking in the back which is super convenient. Definitely recommend for breakfast or lunch if you visiting Raleigh. Transfer Co. Food Hall have a variety of places to eat. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The food was amazing.

Pretty cool vibe and so many different options to choose from, which makes it perfect for a big gathering and gives everyone on the table an opportunity to try something they want to experience and even share a bunch of different things between your people.

I tried the empanadas at the Che empanadas place and loved them! I will certainly consider coming back here! Vegetarian restaurant. Brightly painted outpost with a globally inspired menu of thoughtfully sourced, all-vegetarian fare. Slide 1 of 7. Eastern Carolina native Chef Caroline Morrison serves up the most incredible vegetarian and vegan food in the entire state of North Carolina at the Fiction Kitchen. Her famed meatless smoked barbecue landed her in Food and Wine and percent gets the approval of the NC BBQ fanatics behind this site.

The bright neon green building and funky decor add more flavor to the already delicious meatless options coming out the window. The Fiction Kitchen is a vegetarian restaurant with a commitment to fresh ingredients and in a great location. The ambiance, the design, the menu, and the friendly staff are worth your time. Fiction Kitchen is committed to using local, seasonal ingredients. A hidden gem in the Warehouse District of Downtown Raleigh, NC is a vegetarian restaurant that will keep carnivores coming back for more!.

For those of you who despise vegetables, or eating a vegetarian diet, you are a lot like me!. With that being said, I kept an open mind and am sure glad I did. What a great find! The skillet cornbread was great and I am in love with the Thai skewers. The flavors of everything were so present and tasty.

And the truffles and mousse to top it off was superb. My sweet tooth was completely satisfied. I hope to be back in the area soon–I could easily see myself becoming a regular here. Though I didn't manage to snag a reservation to dine in, the curbside pickup process was SO efficient and friendly, which was great.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a vegan restaurant in Raleigh downtown. I have lived in California and I know how awesome and amazing vegan chicken and meat can be. To be honest the food didn't matched the Californian vegan restaurant but that's okay. The food comes really close to best in standard. Probably I would give 4 star to the vegan food they made but I really need to give this place an absolute 5 star to even attempt such a restaurant in place like North Carolina.

When it comes to desert they did a fantastic job of it. I ordered Tres Leches and it was absolutely amazing given it was Vegan. It was a job very well done. Absolutely superb and creative vegan cooking, and I'm not even remotely vegetarian. Best dish of chicken and waffles in town. Decadent chocolate mousse that I would have sworn had dairy in it, but it didn't. Happy to eat here and I don't miss the meat one bit! Chicken restaurant. Among the menu items are fried chicken, waffles, biscuits and gravy, egg casseroles, sandwiches, and salads, all prepared with the freshest ingredients.

The restaurant is casual and allows you to enjoy the company of friends and family while putting delicious southern food in your stomach. Beasley's is one of the handfuls of Ashley Christensen's downtown Raleigh Restaurants and is a great place for brunch, lunch, and dinner. It's been on a number of lists for the best restaurants in Raleigh, NC, and for good reason! This is always a favorite of my friends who come to visit. That has to tell you something. Upon arrival for a late lunch I asked the server for a window seat so my wife and I could take in the vibe.

She said she had to save it for groups of four, even though there were several other empty tables where four could sit. It was the way she said it We then had a seat at a small table in the middle of the restaurant.

Our server Jordan saved the day! What a cool dude with a great attitude. He made our experience memorable. The food was awesome. I ordered their most popular entree here since it was my 1st-time: chicken with waffles as the chicken breast. The waffle was the main highlight! Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the chicken. Quick and friendly service. Place was fairly busy yet our order came in a matter of minutes. I got the Carolina Reaper Sandwich. It was amazing if you want some real spice in your life.

Mentioned on 5 lists. Try it on Wanderlog. Slide 1 of 4. Show 5 more. Long-running cafe offering a global menu of locally sourced fare, plus live music. Irregardless Cafe, the name may be a little obscure but the food will have your mouth watering!.

View this post on Instagram. The menu features a variety of dishes that are all made from scratch, and the chefs take pride in using only the freshest ingredients. Eaten here twice and both times were fantastic! I'm not a vegan or vegetarian but the vegan dishes are delicious!

They also had around meat dishes on the menu the night we went. I got the lamb with mashed potatoes and it was fantastic! GREAT salads too! Great beer and alcoholic beverages! Live music every night! Volume was perfect. Not overly loud and my wife and I could still carry on a conversation with no problem. We can't wait to go again! This restaurant is by reservation only. It was really good. I got a cocktail that tasted like orange creamsicle. I didn't care for it but if you like that better for you.

Beer selection was ok. Wine selection was very good. The wait staff was very friendly. There are staff waiting to take your plate when you're done and you wouldn't know they worked there because there aren't any uniforms but that was nice because they blend in.

There was live music when we went. Overall beat experience we had in Raleigh. Be mindful of parking because it seems like there isn't enough of that in Raleigh either. Absolutely amazing food, and wonderful service. They also have actual offerings for vegan, vegetarian and gluten free that seem more than an after thought that were expertly executed. It's a great place to bring friends and family of different dietary preferences without anyone having to sacrifice.

It was just so good Mentioned on 4 lists. Scott Crawford, a five-time James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Best Chef in the Southeast, has been a towering presence in the local culinary landscape since , when he raised the bar for locavore cuisine at Herons, the restaurant in the posh Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary.

Crawford and Son, which he opened in , dialed down the plate presentations to a more approachable level. The result, expressed in anything from exquisitely simple malted wheat dinner rolls to soul-satisfying chicken confit with roasted root vegetables, reveals a chef who, free from the constraints of high-end hotel cooking, is clearly in his comfort zone. Like pairing a ball gown with a leather jacket or drinking Champagne at a tailgate, Crawford and Sons toes the line between fancy and cool.

Diners rave about the Manchego-Herb Biscuits, which many people chow down on even without butter. I could die a happy woman after our meal and experience this evening. Everything was packed with flavor and had the perfect balance of comforting flavors with unexpected twists. Excellent service and atmosphere. This place is worth every penny and five star review that has been given.

We sat at the bar and our server, Jordan, was attentive and personable. The crudo with buttermilk ice was so inventive, refreshing and set the tone for everything else that followed. The BB King was quite possibly the best bourbon drink I've ever had. You have GOT to try the food here! The seating is tight, and the menu is limited, but everything else was absolutely perfect! The staff were just the right amount of attentive, the drinks were excellent, the appetizers were fabulous, and oh my goodness those entrees!

And I wasn't even planning on dessert, but after how good everything else was, I figure even just a few bites would be worth it! They even packaged it directly in the takeout container for me since I knew I'd be taking some home.

If you're a picky eater, make sure to check out the menu ahead of time as the options are fairly limited, otherwise, you just have to trust the magic that the chefs produce. Even if it sounds like something you wouldn't normally eat, they chose it for a reason and every ingredient contributes to the flavor harmony.

Enjoy this gem and all it has to offer! We had an amazing experience for our wedding anniversary. Sydney was fantastic. The food amazing tasty and elegant presentation.

We really enjoy everything we order and the desert the Flourless chocolate cake really good. Definitely coming back. Bustling marketplace showcasing local eateries with diverse, casual offerings, plus food retailers.

No, this is a place for the community to come together and dine. Morgan Street packs some of the best local restaurants into its brick and mortar location with indoor seating and a kickass outdoor patio. Measuring 22, square feet inside a re-purposed warehouse, Morgan Street Food Hall features 20 culinary concepts under one roof plus one massive outdoor dining area and bar. When you're looking for a quick bite without reservations look no further than the Morgan Street Food Hall. All these places look so good!

This was our first time to the food hall. Paid parking seem to be the only option, so we parked at secure a spot parking and paid through their online portal. As an aside note make sure that the lot number is the same as the one you're paying for online.

We allowed the app the tag our car in the parking lot. It's tracking was wrong but thankfully it was corrected through their customer service some days later. The Morgan food hall was interesting. There we're quite a few food vendors to choose from. The place was really busy but still worth the travels. My only issue with the place was the size and cleanliness of the eating tables. The major eating area in the back was ram packed. I barely could find seating.

The one that I did fine was littered with small debris and crumbs from food and soiled with stains from beverage spills. I didn't see any type of janitors cleaning the tables so I found napkins and wiped it down myself.

What we did eat was tasty enough for us to decide to come back again another time. The plan is to try other vendors I thought would be good. Love this place! Best way I can describe it is a "restaurant Mall". Whatever your craving you will find here. Pizza, burgers, sushi, Mexican, Greek, southern food, and so much more.

Fun, urban vibe. Great for date, family outing, or solo. Friendly staff at every restaurant. Great atmosphere and outdoor dining is very spacious. I had a lobster tail sandwich, delicious! This is an old favorite! We don't go back often enough, but when we do, we thoroughly enjoy the food, drinks, the ambiance and the crowd The choice of cuisines ensures there's something for everyone! It's clean and welcoming and has so much charm! Highly recommend!

Barbecue restaurant. Did you know that the history of North Carolina Barbecue dates back to a time period before European settlers reached America?.

Prepare your taste buds for a true North Carolinian barbecue when visiting the Pit. There are several different options of BBQ sauce to go with your entree, and the North Carolina sauce has a vinegar base. This barbecue restaurant has been a local favorite for years, thanks to its mouth-watering dishes and affordable prices. The Pit offers an extensive menu of barbecue favorites, including ribs, chicken, pork, and beef.

Ok, here is another worthy mention of The Pit Authentic Barbecue joint just because of their signature burger. Two house-ground brisket patties, western BBQ sauce, brisket, pulled pork, pimento cheese, lettuce, tomatoe, and onion straws.

Excellent service from Elijah. The food was delicious. Their smoked fried chicken wings and hush puppies were among my favorites. The roasted red pepper vinaigrette spicy dressing was a fantastic add-on to our meal.

We then tried their carrot cake for dessert which was also quite delicious. Pretty good. Service could have been a bit more attentive. Server and manager were chatting it up with tables to left and right of us, though. BBQ was great. Very good brisket. Delicious burger. Cornbread appetizer was overcooked and hard. I'd give them another try. Attended a work event at the Pit. Most of the food was bland.

Tried fried Mac and cheese for the first time. Not sure what the rage is about. Pulled pork wasn't very flavorful, definitely add the BBQ sauce. Fried chicken was tender and one of the best tasting things but not the best fried chicken ever. Banana cream pie was best dessert but they were inconsistent I luckily was able to try one that were Goldilock specials "just right".

Chocolate cake had a weird texture and not a good flavor. Took one bite and moved on. Staff seemed irritated we wanted to bring the leftovers to feed the homeless. They do have a great space for hosting group events. Slide 1 of 2. Southern restaurant US. Breakfast restaurant. Show 3 more. The country-style food is every bit as nostalgic for native Carolinians: country ham, grits and redeye gravy for breakfast. Founder Big Ed developed the recipes that the restaurant uses today while preparing meals for workers on his farm.

This place is unique.. Portions are huge and the pan cakes are very big. Omelette with bacon is very tasty with house potatoes on the side and buttery biscuits was an experience. Pancakes are fluffy and tasty, coffe is also refill free. If you are looking for a real local restaurant in Raleigh then Big Ed's is the place. We used to frequent big Ed back in and our little girl loved talking to Mr.

Ed as she called him. Had not come back since we moved. The NC Mountain Trout was cooked perfection and the breading was amazing.

Husband had the western omelette and it was very good, bacon was crispy just like we asked. Daughter had the country breakfast and everything was delicious. It was huge. If you like sweet tea this is one of the best with amazing ice that makes it even better. The biscuits with molasses is a must and I never pass on the chance for chicken and pastry.

All travel reservations in 1 place Never dig through your emails again — access all your flights, lodging, and any reservations in 1 place. Slide 1 of 3. Italian restaurant. Tuscan-accented Italian fare served in an airy, art-filled space with floor-to-ceiling windows. Make a point of visiting Caffe Luna if you are searching for an Italian restaurant in Raleigh. I have had some of the most delicious food in Downtown Raleigh at this Italian restaurant owned by a native Italian.

The owner is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. Remember, lunch time is your time, so soak it in! You only lunch once…once a day, that is. Wilmington St. No arguing over what to eat or where to sit here; going solo at Morgan Street Food Hall means you can choose freely between lots of lunch and dessert options, with no one judging if you opt for more than one. West St. With its large, open windows, bar top seating and front patio, Raleigh Times is the perfect place to people watch while enjoying a quick and reliable lunch.

Hargett St. Person St. Martin St. In addition to the exquisite pastries and desserts lucettegrace offers, the lunch options are not to be missed either. Choose from fresh sandwiches, salads and soups, or try the signature box lunch, which includes a sandwich, salad or soup and a treat.

Salisbury St. I do enjoy a Cassis and Soda here as well! I absolutely adore Heirloom as a great breakfast spot or a coffee shop to get some work done. Order the Taiwanese fried chicken sando with the crispy fingerlings.

They have a great selection of coffee and teas plus wine and beer as well! Side Street Restaurant is one of my absolute favorite hidden gems in Raleigh. They serve up delicious soups, sandwiches, and sweet treats. Order the Dr. And whatever you do, order dessert!
